Allie's Fieldtrip and Nanna's Special Cookies

The 3rd grade went on a fieldtrip to places in our community. Andrea went with the class for all but the last place (the park) and Dad, Elena and Eddie joined in for a couple of stops. They visited the Forest Service, the Farm Service, the bank, the courthouse, Loa Town Hall and the park. The kids enjoyed time away from school, even if it was only to places close by. The only places Allie hadn't been before were the Farm Service (which is in the Forest Service building) and the courtroom in the courthouse.

I asked Elena what she wanted for Monday Night Treat and she said "Nanna's special cookies." Well Nanna's special cookies are called bratzelis and they require a special bratzeli iron that we don't have. We do have a waffle cone iron though so we tried it out. Scott loved the smell while they cooked and felt like he was taken back to his childhood. He wished he could package the smell to send to his mom. I think they turned out okay, even if they weren't as pretty as Nanna's.

Uh Oh!

Last night I was teaching Allie and Elena how to make a cake when uh oh happened. Eddie loves playing with the front part on my mixer that comes out so you can use attachments. Well, the piece that comes out fell into the bowl while the cake, a red velvet cake, was mixing. Eddie wasn't too happy about the result. As the beater would hit the piece the mixer would bounce up spraying him with batter. So if you are ever looking for something to use for fake blood for Halloween, red velvet cake batter would work great.
